A New Hand Drawn Illustration by Me: Facial Expressions

Hi guys! Hope you are enjoying creating in some form or another. I want to share a recent drawing I just completed to illustrate another blog site I have called Walking Way Overrated. Below was an incomplete version and then I added and changed things like her facial expression. It is tricky for me to draw someone's mouth slanted to portray puzzled look.

Sneak Peek! Polymer Clay Journey: Even More Stained Glass Window Clingies

Guess what? I have been a tad hooked on creating faux stained glass window decorations. Right now our front door looks all bright and summery even though it's a typical white, winter day! As soon as I am ready, I will be making a new video. But for now, to brighten your day, I wanted to share a few sneak peeks of the newest creations.
Enjoy!

Polymer Clay Journey: It's Cane Season- Learn About Polymer Clay Caning

Most recent Complex cane, Abstract style- Anita Berglund
Yes it is Cane season! Okay, I am trying to be funny trying to come up with a word that works with the subject of this tutorial. Meaning, today I wanted talk about making canes with polymer clay. And yet I know Candy canes can be seen everywhere in December.  When I was a kid, it seems that everywhere you went someone was giving away candy cane.
With all this talk about Candy canes, you'd think that I love them. Nope, I don't. But it's just the best way to help explain cane making, be it with sugar or clay, and even in glass making.

For starters, here's my new video that shows examples of the various types of polymer Clay cane techniques that I've done so far. As well as, a wee bit of a tutorial- hoping that you will be inspired to try Caning if you haven't already.

Cane making, be it with sugar, glass or clay, is that you can create multiple images of the same design. It is a two dimensional design in a three dimensional form. As well, you can make that same image in various sizes. They're called canes, because once they're all made up, they look like a staff or a cane used for walking.

Which reminds me, our dear brother-in-law, Curly, passed away last month and he used to make handmade walking sticks for people he cared about, out of diamond willow (a type of tree), and they arm pretty much long and straight, hence the name cane....
Watch here "Polymer Clay Journey:
It's Cane Season "

I found videos like the one below, about traditional candy making, very beneficial and useful, to help understand how caning comes together.
About the Candy making video below
Lofty Pursuits, is an interesting YouTube channel that features a candy making shop. The candy maker creates candies using the cane method. I enjoy listening to his commentary as he creates traditional beautiful candy. You can skip closer to the end to see the actual can come together. But I strongly suggest enjoying the entire video, if you have the time.

Now how do I make a Cane?
Well as you may have guessed already, there are many types of canes and therefore, a plethora of Cain making tutorials from trusted artists and companies in existence already. which means it is kind of redundant for me to redo something that has already been done so well in so many ways.
That is why, I decided to share a list of names and companies that you can click on, to go directly to polymer clay cane related tutorials- all in video format on YouTube. That's just the way I like them.

Learning from as many Polymer Clay artist as you can find on YouTube and elsewhere, it Is highly beneficial. Learning the basic skills like a bull's-eye, jelly roll, checkerboard and striped cane, along with learning the Skinner blend technique (for creating a gradation of two or more colours of polymer clay) make a great foundation for cane making, with polymer clay not sugar of course.

Click on the name, to see a mere sampling of the many tutorials on canes.

Polymer Clay Journey: Making Personalized Gifts- Figurines Tutorial. Video- Meet Jesse and Justin

Yes, I recently posted a compilation of the clay figurines I have created for gifts over the past couple of years. Strange thing is I thought I had videos of the beginning to end process on YouTube, but nope. So off to work I went and voila, here is a video intended to teach, encourage and inspire others to get out the polymer clay, tools, armature, powders, tape, tin foil and baking supplies and get sculpting your own personalized gift. My two male figures are about 8 inches tall. I don't have the patience for miniature scale.
Watch Tutorial Video Below.

Thanks for stopping by. Here is the last article with links that go to each video with the article links.

POLYMER CLAY JOURNEY: My Compilation Of Polymer Clay Figures So Far....

I was watching a great broadcast that mentioned polymer clay figure making. That got me thinking about the few I have had fun making. Since I have created some, I thought I would make a compilation posting of my clay figures so far. I included the original post links and videos (for the ones I made videos for.)
A Side Thought Or Two On Originality.
Sculpting figures makes a great personalized gift of love. I prefer to do people I know and not characters. Years ago in College, we had it drilled into our heads about copyright so I always worry about breaching it. I would love to hear from anyone who knows how people copy trademarked or copyrighted images in clay, drawings, and other forms and avoid copyright infringement. The one key thing we were taught (in an Arts Administration program, was that the belief, if you aren't making money from it, it is okay to copy (in that class they specifically talked about music. Our Professor even said that technically, it was breaking copyright to even sing a song off the radio without permission/licensing fees. That class was twenty five years ago, maybe laws have slackened? As an art mentor, I always encourage budding young artists to be original. But, many grew up copying favourite characters from games, videos and such. Then I tell them it is okay to be inspired by other artists, but alter the image and make it your own. Be original guys. It is worth it!

On with the show, this is it....(Is that line copyrighted?) Hmmmm....Hope you are inspired even a little.

DIY Tripod Arm....WORLDS COLLIDE: Walking, Way, Overrated & Heartfully Creating

Walking Way Overrated, Is intended to be a Site Basically about our lives. Can't really call it a blog or a vlog, We pretty much cover A huge Range of topics that Involve our lives somehow. And sometimes we share stuff we find useful, inspiring or just plain fun.

HeArtfully Creating, Is my creativity blog. Can you call it a blog if it has artistic Video tutorials and other things that aren't really blog like?  (check it out here if you want to know what I mean.) Either way H.C. has a definite focus. whereas, W.W.O is more of a collage of our lives.  H.C. is like one piece of that collage.

All that being said, I was having fun today Trying out our new Samsung J3 Galaxy phone. We are actually using our older Galaxy As our mobile phone because we don't have a data plan. Our phone is for emergencies, texting and Craig plays online chess with a dear friend when he's at home.
But since three years have passed and our contract was up a long time ago,  our company offers free phones if you sign a two-year contract. So hey, Why not get a new phone for nothing. We don't like the bigger phones for mobility so we tick to the old one as a phone.
What do you call it if you don't really use it as a phone, but it is a phone? Does anyone else Use their "phone" as a device to do internet stuff and not a phone? It is like having an IPod.

Worlds Collide
Waiting for our new phone case to come from Ebay in China (3-12 weeks?), I had just made a very messy looking phone cover using a hot glue gun technique (look the DIY's on YouTube!).  I could now finally hold the new super slippery, thin, big phone now. It would slip and slide so much, I just kept dropping it. If you are in a pinch and have gripping issues, or don't want to waste mega bucks for a phone shop case, glue gun glue covers work pretty good. Can't wait for my glittery silicone one arrives next year though.

So, wanting to play with our new  device,  I was filming Craig, amazed that a light can shine from the phone when you film if you want! And we thought it was super cool when we discovered an app called "Oxygen Measurement" that takes your blood pressure, oxygen levels, heart rate, hearing and vision test and even psychological measurements! Okay, that is  still the coolest app ever!
That light in Craig's face video is this one:
LIGHT ON

After I blinded him filming, I wanted to see the difference without the built-in  flashlight.  I got him to show the cool DIY bending/elbow tripod  he just made me from our unused desk lamp. Since HeArtfully Creating is my creativity site, and W.W.O. is our life stuff- worlds felt like they collided. Both blogs could host this video! Now it will be much easier for me to do my polymer clay/creativity tutorials!

POLYMER CLAY JOURNEY: My Collection Of All My Texture Related Videos!

I was excited to see that one of my first tutorial videos has received 8000 views! Guess which topic? It was an early one I made inspired by Kater's Acres. Katie has a tutorial video about how to make your own polymer clay texture sheet. Thank you Katie.
For me 8000 views for one video is a huge deal for me. When I am use to seeing 10 -20  views! Clearly,  I am not the only one who loves texture making in polymer clay. I recently broke down and purchased online,  my first Christi Friesen Texture Stamps, making three artist stamps in total. Lisa Pavelka's Flourish set is the only one I had for over a year.
Texture is an element of design that artists use to make their compositions interesting. Other elements  are line, shape, colour, and space. We incorporated all of those tools be it a painting, sculpture, photograph....all visual art.  Some of us prefer one element more than another. My favourites are colour and texture. What do you prefer to focus on the most?

On that note, let's have some fun focusing on texture and polymer clay.  I wanted to have some fun and have compiled all my texture related videos below.
I hope you are inspired to make your own stamps or rollers, or to buy ready made artist's stamps like Christi's or Lisa's.

So grab a refreshment or some clay, sit back and enjoy texture making.
Watch...
Wow, over 8000 people have Watched This Video!
